Started in a back bedroom in 1986 BKS is simply the initials of its founder Brian Keith Sansom. Originally repairing leathers for the Devon and Cornwall police the company progressed to manufacturing leathers clothing for these forces and in 1988 BKS moved to their own premises.
Nine years later and BKS now had contracts supplying motorcycle leather clothing to nearly twenty police forces across the UK.
In 1994 CE approval was introduced and BKS were the first company in the UK to meet these standards. This safety approval made BKS the first choice for many stars of stage, screen and even royalty with Mark Knopfler, Robbie Williams, Hugh Laurie, Daniel Day Lewis, and Prince William all being customers.
As well as the celebrity connections, BKS has appeared on TV in an episode of Hollyoaks, many of the biggest stars of the British racing scene have raced in BKS leather suits: Steve Brogan, Stuart Easton, Carl Fogarty, Tommy Hill, Steve Hislop, Neil Hodgson, Gary Johnson, Danny Kent, Phil McCallen, Steve Parrish, Michael Rutter, James Toseland and Danny Webb.
In 2004, the BKS brand was acquired by the Frank Thomas Sports Group and developed new product ranges with two times World Superbike Champion James Toseland and BBC personalities Steve Parrish and Suzy Perry.
BKS was sold again in 2011 to J&S Accessories Ltd, who have continued to manufacture BKS clothing and extended the range of BKS products available by adding helmets and boots to the collection.
All BKS items are designed by bikers in the UK, and each year the designs are tweaked and improved as the brand constantly develops new high-quality products to meet the needs of today’s riders.
This approach of constant development has seen the brand go from strength to strength in not just the racing side of motorcycle clothing but also with range extensions for Touring and Enduro riders.
BKS have also looked to create motorcycle clothing specifically for the lady biker with one-piece leather suits, leather jackets, jeans and Kelvlar Leggings designed by ladies for ladies.
